Our excellent Parliamentary Candidate, Susan Hinchcliffe is working hard on the doorstep every week with our council candidates for the May 2010 local elections.

We also have a councillor in Windhill & Wrose, Vanda Greenwood, who has served the community for coming on six years and will be up for re-election in 2010.

Philip Davies MP asks 'Is it offensive to black up?'

Residents in Shipley were astonished to read in The Guardian today that their Tory MP, Philip Davies has, over a two year period, been bombarding the Equality and Human Rights Commission with letters asking a series of incredible questions.  Among the questions were "Is it offensive to black up or not, particularly if you are impersonating a black person?" and "Whether it is racist for a policeman to refer to a BMW as "black man's wheels"."
 
Susan Hinchcliffe, Prospective Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley, said, "I find these letters incredible.  At a time when it has been the prime concern of politicians to tackle unemployment, a global economic crisis and climate change, the elected representative for Shipley has been asking rather silly questions which makes us in Shipley look foolish."
