Dallam Avenue has been visited by the Council’s street cleaning service to look at the issue of dog dirt thanks to your local Labour council candidate, Alex Ross.
After speaking to residents on the street Alex contacted the Council to relay their concerns, and kept in touch with the Council to ensure that they sent someone to the street to see the issue for themselves.
Alex said, “I was only too happy to help when a resident raised the issue with me. Dog dirt is an issue across Saltaire Village as so many people walk their dogs in and around Robert’s Park. It’s great the area is used but people should bear in mind their responsibility for cleaning up after their dog.”

All residents on Albert Road can now recycle their garden waste thanks to Shipley Labour’s council candidate, Alex Ross.
After speaking to a resident who wanted to recycle their green waste, Alex contacted the council and found out there was no green waste recycling for the entire odd-numbered side of Albert Road because the Council were concerned with it affecting the World Heritage Status of Saltaire.
Alex liaised with the World Heritage Officers and the Council to get an agreement allowing residents to recycle their green waste. He said, “It was simply a case of crossed-wires. Everyone agreed it should be available to the whole street and I’m delighted to have helped. I tried to get George St included but the road is too narrow for the lorries.”
If you’d like to contact the Council’s waste recycling service you can contact them on 01274 431000 or via www.bradford.gov.uk. |

The revelations about Lord Ashcroft’s tax status has this week reminded us all of the massive influence Lord Ashcroft has had on the UK political scene. Here in Shipley, 2005 saw Lord Ashcroft donate over £14,000 via “Bearwood Corporate Services” to the Tory candidate’s (Philip Davies) campaign. At the same time the Labour candidate Chris Leslie had just £2,000 from the GMB Union. The eventual result saw Philip Davies win by just 422 votes. Said Susan Hinchcliffe, Labour’s parliamentary candidate, “Undoubtedly money enables you to deliver more leaflets, make more phone calls and have higher quality materials to impress the electorate. Looking at the result in 2005 you have to conclude that the Ashcroft money really tipped the balance in favour of the Tories here. In this campaign we in Shipley Labour have relied purely on the goodwill of members and supporters who give individual small donations on a regular basis. Local people are putting their money where their mouth is and supporting ou campaign. I’m proud of how we have funded this campaign and grateful for so many local supporters getting behind us." Car clubs will soon be
coming to Shipley and Saltaire after the Council secured funding from the
Labour government’s Congestion Performance Road Allocation for West
Yorkshire.
The car clubs will help reduce congestion and are a
more economic choice for people who drive under 4,000 miles a year.
Shipley Labour
council candidate, Alex Ross said the announcement was good news for Shipley
and Saltaire, ‘I’ve spoken to hundreds of people across Shipley since being
selected as a candidate and traffic congestion is always high on the list of
people’s concerns, especially for those living in the vicinity of Saltaire
roundabout. Anything that can contribute to alleviating congestion is to be
welcomed so I’m pleased the Council have secured funding from the Labour
government for car clubs.’

Bradford Council has announced that negotiations to open a tourist information centre in Saltaire are at an advanced stage and the centre should be open by the summer.
Shipley Labour council candidate, Alex Ross welcomed the announcement saying "It’s great news for Saltaire and it’s good to see the Council putting something into Saltaire when they highlight it so much as a jewel in Bradford’s crown. The Council has dragged it’s feet for far too long on the issue, only recently it was claiming people should use a phone in Victoria Hall to ring Haworth Tourist Information Centre for information on Saltaire."
Parliamentary candidate Susan Hinchcliffe said, “At last! People expect a tourist information office at a world heritage site. The council have been very cagey about which properties they have in mind. I look forward to seeing which they go for.”
