Mairead Farndale is the Council Candidate for Baildon ward in the local elections which will be held on May 6th 2010, the same day as the general election.
Mairead has been living in Shipley for almost 10 years with her husband and 3 children, she loves the area and plays an active role in community life. Her children attend Shipley schools and through other parents at school and her campaigning she has made many friends in Baildon.
A resident from Shipley got in touch with Susan and asked how long the trial of kerbside plastics in Baildon was going to last before it was rolled out elsewhere across the district. The "trial" in Baildon has been going on for years so Susan decided to take the issue up with the Council. They confirmed that the trial in Baildon was in fact no longer a trial. However they would not be rolling out the scheme to other parts of the district.
"The trial indicates that it is not financially viable to collect plastics as a single stream. Furthermore, the tonnage collected (as opposed to volume) is very low and the contribution to our recycling performance is negligible. The Council is part way through a waste PFI procurement and one of the key deliverables is to separate out plastics from mixed waste for recycling. We will need to review our kerbside collection services once the outcome of the PFI is clearer."
Looks like this trialling time is set to continue for a while longer!
Baildon Methodist
Church Eco Congregation held a public meeting on 16th November about
Climate Change and what Baildon people can do to play their part. The meeting was extremely well attended with
some passionate speeches made from the floor.Susan Hinchcliffe, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley urged
the audience to lobby their elected representatives on this issue if they
wanted to see change happen.
At the Neighbourhood Forum on 17th November residents were frustrated at the lack of action by Bradford Council to
resolve parking issues in the village. The Community Farm attracts thousands of
visitors a year and residents at the meeting said they felt completely
overwhelmed.They are calling on the
Council for better parking facilities.Mairead Farndale, local Labour Party campaigner attended the meeting and
listened to the concerns of residents.Susan
Hinchcliffe, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Shipley said, “naturally
we all like to hear about a success story in the constituency but at the same
time, residents’ concerns need to be heard. We will do our utmost to help them get things sorted out.”
On Sunday 18th October 2009, Local Labour Party
campaigner, Mairead Farndale and the Shipley Labour Action Team visited
residents in Baildon to ask what issues they felt were not being addressed in
their area. The issues raised were poor
road surfacing on Woodview Avenue and Park Lane, littering in a snicket on
St.James’ Road and speeding and poor signage on Roundwood Road.
Mairead contacted the Council’s Highway department and
alerted them to these concerns and as a result the Highways department are
looking into what can be done to resolve the residents concerns. An update will be posted on this site as
soon as we hear back form them.
