A trialling time for recycling plastics

A resident from Shipley got in touch with Susan and asked how long the trial of kerbside plastics in Baildon was going to last before it was rolled out elsewhere across the district.  The "trial" in Baildon has been going on for years so Susan decided to take the issue up with the Council.  They confirmed that the trial in Baildon was in fact no longer a trial.  However they would not be rolling out the scheme to other parts of the district.

"The trial indicates that it is not financially viable to collect plastics as a single stream. Furthermore, the tonnage collected (as opposed to volume) is very low and the contribution to our recycling performance is negligible. The Council is part way through a waste PFI procurement and one of the key deliverables is to separate out plastics from mixed waste for recycling. We will need to review our kerbside collection services once the outcome of the PFI is clearer."

Looks like this trialling time is set to continue for a while longer!
